Ex-NFL ref Tunney publishes first ‘Tunney Side’ Collection - Pebble Beach resident Jim Tunney, a well-known former NFL referee, spent much of his life enforcing rules. But, ironically, his philosophy of life might best be epitomized by a question he poses in his newest book, “101 Best of Tunney Side of Sports Columns.”
“Will you play by the rules even when no one is watching?” he asks.
Core values like integrity, character, attitude, courage and honor are among the themes Tunney addresses in the 125-page book, a collection of the best of more than 480 columns he has written since 2007 for The Herald. Each 400-word column ends with a moral in the form of a question that challenges the reader to self-evaluate.
